Fall is an exciting time for small kids, with so much to do! Some are going back to school and getting ready for another year or going to school for the very first time. There’s Thanksgiving and Halloween to look forward to, and the winter holiday season is right around the corner. With all this excitement, small kids and toddlers will have bundles of energy and be jumping up and down to participate in fun fall activities with their parents.
Arts and crafts are always a great option when it comes to entertaining children of all ages. There are tons of incredible fall crafts your kids can make, from more complicated projects to simple hand painting activities for the littlest ones. Have the kids grab some paint and construction paper and make a handprint turkey for Thanksgiving! The changing and falling leaves that autumn is known for are also great for use in art projects, and you can even turn foraging for leaves into a scavenger hunt.
If you’re looking to enjoy the great outdoors and beautiful fall colours with your family, there are a number of super fun outdoor activities to do in the autumn season.
Apple Picking
Visit an apple orchard with your family for an unforgettable and uniquely fall experience. Even if you’ve got some very small kids or toddlers, they’ll love wandering amongst the trees and being picked up to grab some ripe apples in their little hands. When you’re finished gathering apples, check out the general store for a sweet candy apple or maybe enjoy a hayride throughout the orchard for a great outdoor activity for the whole family.
Leaf Pile
A classic fall activity that’s simple and easy to do anywhere they are leaves. Older kids may be able to help rake up the piles of brightly coloured leaves scattered throughout the yard, and kids of all ages can enjoy jumping into the huge leaf pile once it’s together.
Collecting Maple Syrup
There are many conservation areas and Maple tree groves that offer a fun experience in collecting maple syrup in the fall months. Little kids can explore the grove and see how maple sap is collected from the trees, and eventually turned into maple syrup! These experiences are fun and educational, and in the end, some of the freshly made syrup can be purchased to put on hot pancakes for a sweet treat.
No matter what activity you choose to do with your small kids and toddlers, the real fun is spending time all together. Whether you head out for a fall hike to see the changing leaves or stay in enlist your kids to help in baking an apple pie, these fall activities are the best way to enjoy the season with the people you love.
